Living Life, Within the Limits of Chronic Illness

Time’s Flown!

Well it’s been far too long since I updated this blog! A lot had happened this past month so let me begin…

I had an absolutely AMAZING birthday! I went to Hylands park with my family for lunch, they have a lovely little cafe there called Huttons Courtyard Cafe. The weather was lovely and we managed to sit outside as inside was too loud (as per usual with my M.E). We had a nice stroll, okay I had a nice wheel…, through part of the park and got some lovely photos. Determined to go back again one day, and walk round a bit of it. In the evening I went to my grandparents for a yummy buffet meal, with them and my aunt, uncle & cousins. I really enjoyed myself even though we had to leave early because I was so tired. I got some brilliant presents and were spoilt rotten!

The next day I went to Tom’s for the afternoon and dinner. Had a fantastic time! It was lovely to spend time with him again. Can’t wait for the next time! He’s introduced me to the addictive world of Yankee Candles!! The journey there and back wasn’t as tiring as I expected although when I got out of the car I could barely walk I was so stiff, but that soon wore off.

I spent a couple of days resting as inevitably I suffered a bit of payback from all that excitement and activity! Then had dinner at my best friend’s on the weekend and got even more gifts! It was an amazing week, and I am so thankful to everyone who made it so!!

Since then I’ve had to start my new Open University module, Business Functions in Context. That’s proving tough going with the workload being quite heavy. I managed to make the first tutorial which was very local to me and had a great time. I had to go in my wheelchair as I wasn’t sure of the distance. That made me even more nervous about it, but everyone was lovely. They’ll be more about that on my other blog very soon I hope…! http://lifewithmedoingadegree.blogspot.co.uk/

Right now I’m going through a bit of a dip and this weekend has been the most painful I’ve had in a while. I’ve been managing (just!) on ibuprofen and paracetamol but it’s been tough. I’m also recovering from a sprained foot, which I did about 2 weeks ago now; by standing up! It’s healing well, but I’m still having to wear a support on it during the day or else it gets very bad in the evenings.

Went to the dentist last week and have got to keep an eye on my gums as they bled a lot when I had a clean up & polish with the hygienist there. Strangely they hadn’t been bleeding and still aren’t bleeding when I brush. So at a loss to what the cause is. I’m very wary of it all because of my dental condition which although is under control leaves me worrying about stuff like this!

I think that’s you all up to date…unless I’ve missed anything! Sorry it’s such a long post but like I said A LOT has happened!! Hopefully, I’ll be able to update this again soon. Hope everyone reading this is as well as possible!

Goodbye T215

The past month or so has been spent working on my EMA and the middle of last week I said goodbye and submitted it!

It’s been a lot of hard work but I’m pretty happy with my submission. So now (after paranoidly checking it’s still there come the actual deadline this Friday) the waiting for results will begin!!

I’ve loved studying T215 and found it a really interesting course. Despite having a pretty horrible time with my health and struggling to spend much time on the computer during the most vital times – during the group work in particular! And not being able to attend the tutorials, I’ve managed to get some amazing marks for my TMAs. My favourite TMA has got to have been the final one and the video, despite being challenging with neighbour & health problems it was the one I enjoyed most!

The EMA has been challenging too (as it’s supposed to be…) but again it’s been interesting – once I got started! Glad it’s now finished, just hoping it will get me a decent grade!! Roll on December!!

In a few weeks time on October 5th I officially start B203 Business Functions in Context. The materials for that arrived a few weeks back and I’ve got a new printer in preparation for the block companions – the old printer would jam after just 5 pages! Ever so slightly frustrating!

I’m slightly daunted by this next course – know I said that about T215 but still it’s the truth! My health is still really quite dodgy and winter is my worst time of year generally picking up virus after virus. People have said not to fall behind on B203 cos it’s almost impossible to catch up – not exactly reassuring! Fingers crossed I’m going to manage it…but watch this space!

When the module website opens on Sept 24th I shall be looking to make a start to get ahead. My only slight problem is my birthday being the next day – it’s a special one so I shall be celebrating, and although by most people’s standards my celebrations will be very tame they will really take it out of me. So having to be careful and plan suitable birthday celebrations which hopefully won’t impact on my studies!

I will update this blog as and when I can/ when there is news to share!

TMA05 & CMA44 Results…

Wow, can not believe the results I got for my latest assignments! Remembering how much of a struggle it was to study during the past few weeks courtesy of my neighbours and their music…

For TMA05 I somehow managed to get 98% which had me totally shocked as I didn’t think it was that good!

And for the CMA I got 93% being multiple choice I had hoped I’d done okay but still didn’t expect that!

Anyway I’m now ploughing on with the End-of-Module Assessment. As I want to get it done a little earlier than the deadline so I can get a head start on my next module – B203. That’s if all goes to plan!! So bye for now!

Studying’s been hard but TMA05 and CMA44 are submitted

So today I have submitted TMA05 and the CMA. Things have not been easy during the study of this block, in fact at times studying has been damn near impossible.

I have however really enjoyed this block, much more than I thought I would. It’s reignited my love and subsequent hate of coding!! I love the logic behind scripting languages, and find it really easy to understand and implement. Until I make a really stupid typing error and then I hate it – I always struggle so much to find that (normally tiny) mistake which is preventing it all from working!!

Luckily I had very few such troubles in the process of producing my video for the TMA. And managed to complete it quicker than I thought. Just as well considering how things have been – a nasty virus meant I had almost a week where I was unable to study, and then there’s been days of noise from my neighbours where it has been impossible to get the peace and quiet I need to study or rest.

However with help and support of so many friends I’ve persevered and got through it all, even managing to submit early again – something I thought was totally out of the question at one point!

Anyway I’m taking a very short break from study – a week at most – before moving on to the EMA. All whilst anxiously awaiting the results of the assignments just submitted!
