Living Life, Within the Limits of Chronic Illness

B203; Certainly a Challenge!

No one said this course was going to be easy. But this is proving a lot more difficult than I anticipated, with my health causing more problems than I’d hoped too.

So I completed Block 3, Marketing, over the Christmas break and submitted the TMA on time. I rather enjoyed marketing, and the TMA that went with it. Using the feedback I got from my last TMA to improve my answers, I managed to score 81% Amazing improvement on TMA02.

Block 4 has been very interesting but incredibly difficult to keep up with due to illness. But I have just about managed to get my 4th TMA submitted on time. This one has been a real challenge and struggle, if I’m honest. But at least it’s now done…hopefully the mark won’t be too disastrous!

Anyway I am now moving onto Human Resource Management, my weakest area during a previous module. The trouble I find is a lot of the activities are based on real life experience, which having never been employed thus far in my life, I don’t have much if any. So I’m kind of half-dreading it, if I’m honest.

Anyway that’s pretty much all for now, I will update this as and when I’m able. 🙂

B203 TMA results AND T215 overall results…

Well it’s been a while, this studying malarky is proving difficult with my health playing up and my blogs have been left a little neglected.

So first off B203:

I’m finding the amount of reading really difficult to manage, but I’m just about coping. I’ve requested audio versions of the material alongside my comb bound books in the hope it will make things a little easier for me. My eyes are tiring very easily, getting painful and losing focus. However the course is proving very interesting; Block 3 Marketing more so than Block 2 Operations Management!

I got my first TMA back, with a score of 65%. Pretty pleased with that especially as things have been challenging with my health and managing the workload.

Operations Management was quite interesting, but after a while it soon got a bit boring. Apparently it’s supposed to be though! I submitted my second TMA and received it back quite quickly, with a score of 62%. I had hoped for better but again considering everything that’s rather good. I got some good useful feedback with it as well, so hopefully I’ll be able to improve when it comes to TMA 03!

Right now I’m over halfway through Block 3, and enjoying marketing. I’ve got a two week break over Christmas (which I’ll probably take half of and try catch-up/get ahead) and the third TMA due in, in January.

And now to T215:
I can’t remember the exact date but in November I got my final overall results for T215, my previous module. Having got an Overall Continuous Assessment Score (OCAS) of 93% I wasn’t too worried about the End of Module Assessment (EMA), I was simply aiming to pass. I scored 78% on my EMA, so overall I got a GRADE 2 PASS for T215!! Which I’m chuffed with!

A bit worryingly some components of my EMA were borderline fail, according to the limited feedback I receive. But a pass is a pass! And a grade 2 pass is a high level pass at that!

That’s all for now, Merry Christmas Everyone, I hope you all get a break from studying over the festive period! And 2014 is a happy, healthy year for you!

Season Greetings…(and apologies!)

Well it has been a long time since I last posted, sorry about that! Life has been hectic and surprise surprise my health has suffered a bit. With Christmas coming up things are even busier but I’m forcing myself to take a step back so I can enjoy the festivities on the day.

Soo I guess I should update you all as to what’s been going on?! Read on only if you want to – it could get quite long!

Health wise it’s been a bit of a yo-yo! Doing more than I should then consequently suffering for it. I’m still trying to establish my baseline again. I’ve had days where I’ve been unable to stand unaided; got out of bed and just crumpled in a heap on the floor, even walking with aid has been challenging. Luckily those days have been few, but it takes me by surprise and knocks my confidence quite a bit.

I managed to get my Christmas shopping done, even though it did result in the next day being one of those days mentioned above!

I’ve also rediscovered the impact a change of routine has on M.E. with my sister spending more time downstairs I’ve been ‘socialising’ more – there’s more voices to take in, movement to cope with, more sitting up etc. and it was more exhausting than I expected. So I’ve had to spend more time on my bed resting. Amazing how such a slight change can have a big impact!

Uni wise, things are proving to be a struggle. I’ve had to request audio versions of the course materials (which should be on their way to me very soon) as the sheer amount of reading is leaving me with very tired painful eyes that can’t focus. I didn’t manage to attend my second or third tutorial – I was without a wheelchair for the second one as a wheel bearing had collapsed and it took almost 3 weeks to get the correct part! The third one I missed on Saturday as I had to make the difficult decision as to whether to risk the ‘payback’ lasting into Christmas, especially as I’ve been recovering from a cold. I decided it wasn’t worth the risk and I’d like to be able to enjoy Christmas with my family.

I got my first assignment back as well – 65%, and also the second – 62%. Not bad considering my health and I always do slightly worse on business courses than on I.T. courses. I’m happy with it as long as I pass! Just managing to study and pass is an achievement, the level of pass doesn’t matter to me.

Oooh and I got my final results back for my previous module – GRADE 2 PASS!!! Really pleased, didn’t do as well on my End of Module Assignment as I’d hoped, scoring 78% with borderline fail on some components but again it’s a pass and a high grade one at that! (The only grade higher is distinction)

Anyway I think that’s you all up to date for now, I aim to post more regularly in the new year.

Merry Christmas! I hope 2014 brings good health, and lots of happiness for you all.

New Academic Year, New Module

Well it’s now almost a month in to B203 Business Functions in Context and I have to say I’m enjoying it. Although the workload is proving difficult to manage.

I managed to go to the first tutorial on October 5th which was fantastic. I had to use my wheelchair as I wasn’t sure of the distance between car and the room, it was the first time I’d had to use the wheelchair for a tutorial which made me even more apprehensive. But all went well and it wasn’t too much of a problem. The first time I’ve had a tutorial in a ballroom too!

I’ve now submitted the first TMA as well and moved onto Block 2 today. Operations Management. Hoping it proves as interesting as it looks! I’m finding it hard to get do the hours I need to as it drains me so much. Somehow I’ll find a way though, I’m determined to get this degree.

In other exciting news the results for T215 will be out by Friday 29th November. Can’t wait!! Although having an assignment due for B203 around that time, I’d rather that time didn’t fly, but I do want to know the result! Haha.

Anyway I hope to update this again soon, if I can find the time in amongst all this studying malarky! Feeling the pressure already. Not helped by a dip in my health and other events going on at the moment!
